Hollerbach: "We're going to fight, that's for sure"

Preview of the match

There we go! The long awaited start of the Jupiler Pro League 21-22.

Our Canaries will start this Sunday at 9pm in Stayen against the Buffalos of Ghent. The same pattern as last season, since we also met KAA Gent at home on the first matchday. Hopefully the result will be the same (remember: we won the game 2-1).

Yesterday was the traditional pre-game press conference with our coach. And right away, the journalists wanted to know who would be the captain. "Pele will be the captain for this game. Steve came back from injury a little while ago and it might be a little too early to start him. In any case, I will wait until the end of the mercato when the team is complete to define the captain for the season." We asked Mboyo how he felt about his new responsibilities: "I'm happy with the coach's confidence, but you know, with or without the armband, I think I will keep the same role. I have a huge respect for Steve and I think all the older players (Teixeira, Brüls, De Ridder, ...) just want to set a good example for the youngsters and help the team as best as they can".

The Buffalos had a warm-up game this week in the Conference League against the Norwegian team Vålerenga. "We watched the game, but it's hard to know what the other team is worth, so it's hard to evaluate Ghent's performance. They have a good team and they played well. It allowed us to see their latest recruits and their positioning and role," said Mboyo.

In any case, the game promises to be intense. "We're going to fight, that's for sure!" said the coach during the conference. "It is a team that has ambitions, but we know that the first matches are played mainly on the mental and on the physical condition and on that we have worked very well during the preparation. We must believe in our qualities and fight until the end," adds Mboyo.

The good news is that there will be almost 2,000 people in the stadium to support our Canaries. And Petit Pele is happy about it: "We are all happy to see the public again. When we see the impact that the public had during the Euro. And the fans will be ready since they have not had the opportunity to see us for a while, so we will have to use this positive energy during the game."
