STVV has secured itself a longer stay at the highest football level at the Freethiel. STVV won 2-4 against Waasland-Beveren in an animated match. Suzuki and Mboyo each scored two goals.
The match could not have started worse for Peter Maes' troops. After less than two minutes Frey kicked the home team into the lead.
The home team was in control until Vukotic clearly punched Brüls to the head. Vukotic seemed to get away with a yellow cardboard, but after an intervention of the VAR, it turned red. The Waaslanders had to play with ten men for three quarters of the game.
STVV recharged its batteries and eagerly went in search of the equalizer. Just a few minutes later, Suzuki pushed the equalizer in from close range. Sint-Truiden dominated from then on and shortly after the break Mboyo brought STVV into the lead, 1-2.
In minute 73, Wuytens was also ruled out after a second yellow card. Shortly after Mboyo kicked the leather into the ropes after a deflected shot by Suzuki, 1-3.
The Waaslanders, even with nine, did not give up. Verstraete scored the 2-3 with his head. Suzuki, once again, decided the game completely with the 2-4, on an assist by Hashioka.
Thanks to this victory, the STVV of Peter Maes is mathematically sure of its stay in D1A.
